CPR Certification Offered to Save Lives
Detroit, MI — Ecclesia Community Development Corporation (ECDC) is proud to announce it will offer CPR training/certification on Saturday, March 19, 2016 beginning at 9:30am.
The event, Lovin’ Life to Save Lives, honors one-year-old Ava Snead, who almost lost her life to Vitamin D deficiency in March 2014. Her mother, Sherice Snead credits CPR techniques her husband learned from watching television to saving her daughter’s life. “Last March, my 10-month-old daughter died in my arms. I felt helpless. My husband immediately administered CPR, something that he learned from watching TV. Thought it wasn’t the best way, it worked and today our daughter is walking, talking and enjoying life.”
As the anniversary to this tragic event approached, the family wanted to do something to celebrate. A typical party didn’t seem to address the seriousness of the matter; the need to educate others so that no one else would experience this type of tragedy was evident. “Most people don’t realize that Vitamin D deficiency can be fatal. And most breastfeeding mothers don’t realize that breast milk doesn’t include Vitamin D, “ Snead said. “Our family learned the hard way and we don’t anyone else to have those experiences.”
ECDC has teamed up with the World Health Institute to offer the CPR training. The World Health Institute is led by Ryan Wuestenberg, who began as an instructor for the American Red Cross in 2001 as a volunteer. The cost for the class is $25 and includes training in Infant, Adult and AED, and a healthy lunch.
